With over 485 years of illustrious history, 龟龄集 (gui ling ji) has been
formulated for China's emperors and royal families since the Ming and Qing
dynasties. The formula had its name bestowed upon by Emperor Jia Jing of the
Ming Dynasty. "Gui Ling" is literally translated as "tortoise age", referring to
the tortoise's mythical lifespan, encapsulating Gui Ling Ji's longevity
enhancing properties. "Ji" means "assemble", symbolizing the gathering of the
best herbs for their vitality boosting benefits. In Chinese tradition, it is
used for decline of fire from the gate of life and deficiency of the kidney
essence, symptoms manifested as mental tiredness, cold and pain in loins and
abdomen, impotence, premature ejaculation, and seminal emission, metrorrhagia

黄帝内经 Yellow Emperor's Canon of Medicine is composed of two books:
素问 Plain
Conversation and 灵枢 Spiritual Pivot. It is the earliest extant medical canon in
China that records the achievements of medicine made by Chinese people in
ancient times.
Theoretically, Plain Conversation discusses the principles of yin-yang,
cultivation of health in different seasons as well as the physiology and
pathology of viscera and Channels. While Spiritual Pivot mainly deals with
acupuncture and moxibustion. It is the first known treatise about acupuncture
with its associated medical procedures. The title itself expresses a world
vision and reality where material and structure are secondary to the living
energy of Ling Shu, the Spiritual Pivot.
Yellow Emperor's Canon of Medicine has established the theoretic system of
traditional Chinese medicine. In the past thousands of years, it guided the
development of traditional Chinese medicine. Even today, Yellow Emperor's Canon
of Medicine still plays an important role in guiding the theoretic study and
clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine.
It is difficult to study TCM and what is even more difficult is to
become a well-known TCM physician. Not only does the difficulty lie in mastering
plenty of TCM fundamentals and skills, but also in grasping it unique thinking
models, which need to be experienced and verified in one's clinical application
of them time and again. Being an integration of TCM theories with its clinical
practice, the TCM clinical fundamentals subject consists of the knowledge of
Treatise on Shanghan,
Treatise on Jingui, and Doctrine of Wenbing.
This book concentrates on the main points and
presentation of the essence, closely linking with modern clinical practice. As most of its contents are literally the
essentials of the author's TCM lecture notes, it would be sure to give
TCM teachers great convenience.
